Heretics in hiding

It is striking how few players there are in the current Darwin. The equivocating statements of the pope, among others, show how truth surrenders to PR. Notable especially is the unwillingness of academic sources to address the issue. The exception proves the rule: NPR takes up the Sternberg case.

Intelligent Design and Academic Freedom
All Things Considered, November 10, 2005 · Intelligent design — the idea that life is too complex to have evolved through Darwinian evolution — is stirring up controversy not only in high school classrooms but also at universities and scientific research centers.

It is obvious from discussions on many academic email lists that once the question of Darwin’s theory comes up, discussion is at risk.

We can therefore take with a grain of salt any claims for the monolithic character of scientific views on evolution.
