Blog’s effect

Posted in Evolution at 9:06 pm by nemo

James Sherwood on links.
Thanks for pointing out the link, but this blog is proceeding nicely after its own fashion, and I have many clues to the fact that it is having an effect on discussion, so the attempts to enforce the ‘reign of silence’ are not really working. Getting somewhere requires the middle way of exposing two opposing propaganda systems operating almost as if in tandem. That makes it doubly difficult to engage in real debate or critique, since everything is just posturing.

You’ve got your work cut out for you. After their orgy in New York, the ScienceBlogs crew seems to be invigorated.

[...] James comments on ‘Blog’s effects’ and Telic Thoughts, Threatiness and blog traffic considers tactics on the part of the various factions: Myers offers a number of explanations for why UD has low traffic compared to his blog but he neglects one that we at Telic Thoughts have been mentioning for quite some time - ID just isn’t that big of a threat. Not a lot of people know what ID is, not a lot of people talk about ID, not a lot of people accept ID, and the threat ID poses to society is quite minimal. Because of these things, ID blogs don’t get a lot of traffic. [...]

Your comment trackbacks typically end up in the moderation queue and I routinely let them pass into the comments, except for comments that are just quoting and do not have writing of your own. Since Sal wants your site exposed to more views I’ll add it to the link on the front page in the Friends of Descent section. Even though you apparently do not agree with all (or certain?) aspects of ID I don’t think Bill will mind but I’ll doublecheck with him.

The basic thrust of critique here on Darwiniana is of natural selection, and that is an open forum for all who are having a problem with Darwinian theory (and, indeed, Darwinists themselves). There are several posts on a distinction between G-design and N-design. I tend to follow a Kantian perspective on design, Kant being notable for saying that the ‘design argument has my greatest respect’ (which is not proof), next to his criticisms of rational theology of the eighteenth century. Some might consider that Kant’s postulates of practical reason are a reconstructed design argument, but I think not. They are simply operational hunches.
My views often resemble those of Michael Denton in his classic text (I am not sure of his personal views).
I welcome any links and comments, and possible contributions for all sides in the debate. Anyone who wishes to register (not needed to comment) and submit an essay just might get posted here.
