SK: Sufi hyenas and mysticism, an exit strategy

Posted in Evolution, New Age, Philosophy, religion at 7:45 pm by nemo

Having raised the question of ‘mysticism’ with ’sillykitty’ in several posts: Schopenhauer and atheism, here, and here.

Sillykitty, I denied the label ‘mystic’, and for good reason.
Passing through the terrain of sharks like E.J.Gold and the Gurdjieffian types, you can’t afford fancy baggage: everything you do may be held against you, watch out. Mystical amateurs are easy to exploit. Such sufis are ‘devils’, they will use your mysticism against you. (Gold is on record declaring he will ‘put every obstacle in your way that he can’, he actually admits his tactics).
That’s hard to grasp for a beginner.

Just say no. Just say goodbye to ’sufi’ mysticism, ‘gnostic oneness with god’ and other trash. Good way to get yourself killed.
That’s why, despite his distance from traditionalist monotheism, I pointed to Schopenhauer. His writings may not trigger anything for you at first, no matter. Just be aware of a useful resource: you can simply step out of the game and orient you thinking around something that isn’t peddling an occult agenda. A sudden clarity arises in the context, and you realize that gurus are the worst of teachers because their tradition has decayed into deceptions and exploitative domination tactics. A confused mystic is fodder for that game.

okay. off this subject maybe and back to the fringe mind control conspiracy stuff, i recently dug out an old spiral-bound (self-published—1988) book i tucked away years ago. it was passed on to me by a nice occultist, a long-time customer, after i passed over it when buying his books–because the condition was yucky. it is called ‘war in heaven’ and is by a man named kyle griffith. google search reveals he is presently hosting a yahoo discussion group on his ideas. i won’t go into it here, but put it out there for you and others. the ideas will be familiar to anyone who has looked at gurdjieff, et al.

the worst part about e.j. is that in the end, i have to thank him. and consider that he may be prey to forces larger than his own will to good. there are more important questions to consider, like the existence of evil.

    ?

thank you for explaining where you were coming from but it wasn’t necessary. words are insufficient.

    your friend,
    confused mystic fodder

Thanks for comments. You don’t have to abandon ‘mysticism’, not my point. It is really a question of understanding: then the ‘words’ fall away.
Anyway, Schopenhauer is a resource, though theists will gag on it.

Your notes on some new material re: mind control, is good. We can pursue that, then…

speaking of gagging. oprah winfrey has teamed up with eckhart tolle to teach a web-class on tolle’s recent book, the new earth. i downloaded a podcast of the first class and thought it was surprisingly good. tolle’s insistence that we breakthrough whatever ideologies we may hold to contact direct experience on our own and for ourselves, is reaching more people than ever. using ’skype’ phones people call in from all over…several confused christians (baptist from georgia!) asking where practicing the ‘power of now’ leaves their christian doctrine?

it seems like a promising development on a very large scale. will try to get to schopenhauer soon.
