Intelligent Design: the Third Road

I keep hearing about something called “Intelligent Design”. What is Intelligent Design??? It seems to me that this is a very divisive issue. On one side, apparently you have the Materialists, who view those on the other side of the divide (the Christians) as folks with a crackpot theory about some guy pulling out a rib and making Women. While on the other side of this yawning chasm, you got people who view the Materialists and their “Darwinian Science” as deluded souls, who’s views are somehow dangerous to the sanctity of their (the Christians’) core beliefs.

Let’s look at the Materialists first. To the unbelieving Materialist, man is simply an evolutionary accident. His hopes of survival are strung on a figment of mortal imagination: His fears, loves and longings are but a chemical reaction to the juxtaposition of certain lifeless atoms of matter. His devotional labors and inspirational genius are doomed to be extinguished at death, the long and lonely night of eternal oblivion. Nameless despair is Man’s only reward for his short life of toil under the temporal sun. Each day of life slowly and surely tightens the grasp of a pitiless doom which a hostile and relentless universe has decreed shall be the crowing insult for all that is beautiful, noble and good.

Now, if you ask me, this is not a really great philosophy of life! And indeed, you would have to be a pretty extreme Materialist to fully subscribe to such a view. Anyone who commits to this extreme viewpoint of Materialism, must be, deep inside, miserable. However, I’m sure that most self described “Materialists” come nowhere near to the distressing viewpoint of life depicted above. After all, once you remove the thin veneer of self professed ideological viewpoint, most people are pretty much the same.

Now let’s look at the other extreme. To the unyielding Religionist, much, if not all Darwinian science is a misconception. Textbooks, museums, and even The Discovery channel all conspire to forward this false viewpoint of evolution. And they so conspire to force it upon even the young impressionable minds of the Children! (A lot of hand wringing occurs at this point).

Wow! That must be a pretty scary way to look at science! Once again, happily most Christians do not subscribe to such an extreme viewpoint, just as most Materialists must glean, deep inside, that there is an actual point and purpose to the Universe.

But what if there was a third way. A third road which bridged the gap between Materialism and Religion. What if the universe was constructed by Intelligent Design?

To me, it’s simple. Evolution is a fact. Things evolve. They evolved in the past, they are evolving now and in the future, they will continue to evolve. But see, that’s the real beauty of it… Because Evolution was God’s technique for developing us! Here we are; the Evolutionary Will Creatures of Time and Space. The Sex Creatures of evolutionary development. It’s all part of the big plan! Upon this planet, just countless other planets in the Greater Universe of Universes, was placed the cosmic seed of life; designed to evolve and (eventually) to create US! And coexisting with us, unseen by us yet ministering to us, are the Seraphim, and the Cherubim, and a whole Host of other spirit beings. This world is no more and no less than a spiritual Preschool for humanity. It is here that survival decisions are formulated. Decisions which will take us beyond this short existence and into an eternity of Universe service and eventual Deity attainment. This place is the jump off point for God! Man, I get goose bumps every time I think about it. And survival isn’t based on if you are a Methodist, or a Protestant. Hindus, Muslims, and Christians, even the self professed unbelievers, if they haven’t actually rejected the divine mercy, will all wake up on the other side. Our world is one of the many inhabited worlds of the Ascending Sons of God, and all of them were created by the process of Evolution.

Science and Religion are merely two sides of the same coin of Human existence. Now that’s what I call an Intelligent Design!
