Here is some general commentary from nemo from yesterday: Another approach to ‘spiritual’ psychology. I cite Bennett because his use of Samkhya is technically a ‘materialist’ argument applied to conventionally ‘spiritual’ psychology.

I am citing O’Leary’s links because, whatever my disagreements/agreements, the critics of scientific monism have a fairly easy task. However, conclusive arguments have yet to be brought forth on either side, for good Kantian reasons.
I am very wary taking sides, however, on the dualism question, preferring to zigzag dialectically with the alternate embrace of each side in succession. We are waiting for the big neuroscience breakthrough, but, if the Kant perspective is right, the phenomenal/noumenal distinction in relation to self will make things difficult here.
