Conspiracy of silence on the Axial Age. Keep the public confused
From yesterday, Daily Kos diary and Armstrong’s distortion of Axial Age
The confusion over the Axial Age is a symptom of everything that is wrong in the Darwin debate, and of the fact that both sides of the debate are stuck with myths and agendas. That suggests there are only two sides! The are only two propaganda sides, and both are unable to escape their frameworks, the framework of scientism, and the (Christian) framework of history.
If we examine the Axial Age we see something that is behind the history of the Old Testament, but which religionists traditionalists cannot grasp, because their interpretation is frozen around Biblical mythology. The scientific camp can’t even register the Axial Age, can’t even acknowledge there is a discourse on it, or mention it in public. This attitude is more proof that what is being called science when we get to history, and evolutionary history, is really the promotion of a set of assumptions, not scientific enquiry.
It is a sad situation, since all our public philosophies are false, and we must see the double, or multiple, collapse of promoted mythologies, scientific and religious, to make any headway.
Karen Armstrong in the crafty mendacity that characterizes her work turned the Axial Age upside down and managed a small miracle, discussion of Buddhism without the issue of Enlightenment, and the Biblical tradition, without any serious discussion of God.
Her success is a good token of the public’s deliberately induced confusion, as ‘history’ and ‘evolution’ are moulded to serve the establishments, religious and scientific. Keeping the public confused is the best the elites of science and religion can manage.
