False, illusory victory of scientism

Posted in General at 12:29 pm by nemo

Article cited yesterday on the Culture Wars (so-called) between Science and the Humanities: Fifty years after CP Snow
I was struck by the arrogance of this essay, next to its considerable ignorance.
And its bald statement that ‘science’ had won the culture wars.

We are treated to the idea that people like E.O. Wilson represent this ‘victory’.
I think that this is a total misunderstanding of what C. P. Snow meant, or should have meant.

There are no winners in the science wars. Or to put it better: the division of the Naturewischenschaft and Geisteswissenschaft is in some fashion intrinsic, and can’t be transcended. We wouldn’t want to transcent it!!!

That is why the current domination of scientism vis Darwinism is a hidden calamity. The victory the author of the article refers to is therefor a disaster in progress.
