Robert Wright: Pirouetting on the fence

I guess Wright gets it from multiple directions: here Coyne lambasts Wright for his various sins against the Darwinian true faith.

However, Coyne seems to let Wright get away with his crank theory to do with game theory (the non-zero junk game theory), which somehow gets mixed up with ‘transendent purpose’.

The question of teleology won’t go away, but neither Wright, nor any of the religious anti-darwinists are likely to get it straight.

If you want to bring ‘teleology’ into evolution you need to produce some facts, and have the right model to go with it: the eonic effect shows directionality over history which may or may not have teleological meaning.

In general, there is every possibility that teleological questions are what is creating the Darwin debate confusion.
If you follow the approach to that seen in the eonic model of the eonic effect you might get a sense of why both sides go wrong.
