The well-written evolution book racket
New Scientist actually seems to give Dawkins a bad review. Review: The Greatest Show on Earth by Richard Dawkins
I will hardly be the one to defend Dawkins, but this quibbling over his style or strategy assumes that ‘good books’ are sufficient here.
They are not. We have been bamboozled for a generation by technically slick books on evolution, by Dawkins especially. Maybe a waning of this mode as Dawkins sails into the sunset will be a moment to reflect. We have been misled about evolution by well-written books.
We should shrug. It wasn’t science.
