Nemo,
Sorry if this is out of place, comment-wise. But, I bought and finished “Biocentrism” by Lanza. I was very, highly impressed, both with the theory in general and with how he articulated discontents with science’s current-paradigm attempts at explaining life and consciousness.
Also possibly off topic here: one question I’ve always wondered about concerning natural selection’s randomness: wouldn’t the probability of a mutation being non-beneficial (even to the point of possibly killing the organism) be much more likely than otherwise? Especially seeing how it’s totally random? It seems to me that we mention the incredible improbability of life occurring in the first place, but that it would also seem just as unlikely for mutations to occur that don’t immediately kill off the organism. (I mean, I understand that many species die off, but what I’m talking about is something much more serious: not that one mutation is more beneficial than another mutation (or lack of), but rather that, seeing how delicately an organism survives in the first place, it doesn’t throw this balance out of whack and thus make the organism unsuited for life in any sense. Wouldn’t this be the more probabilistic outcome?) Is my thinking or reasoning flawed? Or do I have a point?
Thanks,
Reece.
