Gould’s unfair treatment of Wallace
Flannery on Wallace (and Gould)
Gould should have been the first postdarwinian, but a failure of nerve, or whatever, crippled his skeptical insights, and he was incapable of breaking with the Darwin mythology. His treatment of Wallace, as pointed out here, was unfair, and in fact, I am puzzled that Flannery never mentions the plagiarism issue between Darwin and Wallace. Calling Wallace a hyperselectionist is ridiculous. Darwin got the whole theory from Wallace.
