Overheard on CNN

Posted in Critique of Evolutionary Economy, Evolution at 5:22 pm by nemo

I was looking at a CNN bulletin on the economy/banks and saw a snippet where some banker, speaking into a microphone, said, ‘Capitalism works, Darwinism works’, with a strange glazed-over look in his eyes.

The remark is revealing, not only as to economic ideology, but as to the delusion that Darwinism and the function of markets are analogous or somehow the same mechanism.
The question of markets is one thing, but the connection to Darwinism is one of the most persistent delusions of modern thought, and one that biologists very rarely comment on or denounce. We can see why the Darwin paradigm is so persistent: deluded people, egged on by biological confusion, think that markets, and Darwinian natural selection are connected, and that this belief is important for economic reasons.
Small wonder this field of idiots can’t have a paradigm shift.
