Born to believe?
Rationalists such as Philip Pullman underestimate mankind’s built-in hunger for the sacred, argues Matthew Taylor
Surely we are NOT born to believe. The ‘god gene’ nonsense seems to have mutated and become the new meme for religionists hoisting reductionists on their own petard.
The issue is pretty simple: man is stranded between two worlds, and senses (mostly incorrectly) a spirit world. The latter is not supposed to exist, so we get all this other crap as explanation.
This condition came into existence with the dawn of homo sapiens. The only people who can’t handle it are the reductionists in scientism.
