Hedges’ article repackaged
Who is more stupid, Darwinists or the Bible Belt?Religious Institutions Are Ruled By the Morally Bankrupt — But Should We Be Cheering Religion’s Demise?
As we devolve into a commodity culture, in which celebrity, power and money reign, the older, dimming values of another era are being replaced.
This article first appeared at Truthdig yesterday, under a different title, re: Nietzshce, and we commented here on it:
After religion fizzles, you’re stuck with Kant/, replacing Nietzsche with Kant.
This Alternet article seems sanitized thus. Perhaps I misunderstood Hedges.
I don’t think we should be cheering religion’s demise, and part of the reason is that the substitutes offered by the likes of Richard Dawkins et al. are so impoverished that even dumb Christians seem to hold a preferable hand.
One of the strangest things about this is the way that very intelligent scientists act stupidly on evolution and religion, and the response of the less instelligent to stick to their guns.
Scientists should reconsider the idiocy of Darwinism applied to religion, and try to grasp why the future devolves to the unsmart to perservere when scientists get unsmart. Got that?
The question of religion is so complex that to think Darwinnists like Dawkins and Dennett should declare themselves arbiters is frightening.
If the smart act stupidly, then the stupid will correct the smart: that’s part of why we are seeing the most stupid form of religion in the Bible Belt turtle down near the reign of scientism.
A better approach is possible: scientists could decide to be intelligent, and do some science, like see through Darwinism. And study religion carefully.
Equating religion with Christianity to denounce religion is completely unfair to a complicated cultural logjam.
