Why Not Declare Class War and be Done With It
By DAVID MACARAY
http://www.counterpunch.org/macaray11292010.html
Not only has the so-called “trickle-down” theory of economics been revealed to be a cruel hoax, but most of the good industrial jobs have left the country, the middle-class has been eviscerated, the wealthiest Americans (even in the wake of the recession) have quintupled their net worth, and polls show that upwards of 70 per cent of the American public feel the country is “headed in the wrong direction.”

The Stench of US Economic Decay: Russia and China Dump the US Dollar
The American government only has resources for wars of aggression, police
state intrusions, and bailouts of rich banksters. The American citizen has
become a mere subject to be bled for the ruling oligarchies. *
*By Dr. Paul Craig Roberts*
On Thanksgiving eve the English language China Daily and People’s Daily
Online reported that Russia and China have concluded an agreement to abandon
the use of the US dollar in their bilateral trade and to use their own
currencies in its place. The Russians and Chinese said that they had taken
this step in order to insulate their economies from the risks that have
undermined their confidence in the US dollar as a world reserve currency.
This is big news, especially for the news dead Thanksgiving holiday period,
but I did not see it reported on Bloomberg, CNN, New York Times or anywhere
in the US print or TV media. The ostrich’s head remains in the sand.
Previously, China concluded the same agreement with Brazil.
As China has a large and growing supply of dollars from trade surpluses with
which to conduct trade, China is signaling that she prefers Russian rubles
and Brazilian reals to more US dollars.
The American financial press finds solace in the episodes when sovereign
debt scares in the EU send the dollar up against the euro and UK pound. But
these currency movements are just measures of financial players shorting
troubled EU-denominated debt. They are not a measure of dollar strength.
The dollar’s role as world reserve currency is one of the main instruments
of American financial hegemony. We haven’t been told how much damage Wall
Street fraud has inflicted on EU financial institutions, but the EU
countries no longer need the US dollar for trade between themselves as they
share a common currency. Once the OPEC countries cease to hold the dollars
that they are paid for oil, dollar hegemony will have faded away.
Another instrument of American financial hegemony is the IMF. Whenever a
country cannot make good on its debts and pay back the American banks, in
steps the IMF with an austerity package that squeezes the country’s
population with higher taxes and cuts in education, medical and income
support programs until the bankers get their money back.
This is now happening to Ireland and is likely to spread to Portugal, Spain,
and perhaps even to France. After the American-caused financial crisis, the
IMF’s role as a tool of US imperialism is less and less acceptable. The
point could come when governments can no longer sell out their people for
the sake of the American banks.
There are other signs that some countries are tiring of America’s
irresponsible use of power. Turkey’s civilian governments have long been
under the thumb of the American influenced Turkish military. However,
recently the civilian government moved against two top generals and an
admiral suspected of involvement in planning a coup. The civilian government
further asserted itself when the prime minister announced on Thanksgiving
day that Turkey is prepared to react to any Israeli offensive against
Lebanon. Here is an American NATO ally freeing itself from American
suzerainty exercised through the Turkish military. Who knows, Germany could
be next.
Meanwhile in America the sheeple remain content with, or blind to, their
role as sheep to be slaughtered to feed the rich. The Obama administration
has managed to come up with a Deficit Commission whose members want to pay
for the multi-trillion dollar wars that are enriching the military/security
complex and the multi-trillion dollar bailouts of the financial system by
reducing annual cost-of-living increases for Social Security, raising the
retirement age to 69, ending the mortgage interest deduction, ending the tax
deduction for employer-provided health insurance, imposing a 6.5% federal
sales tax,
while cutting the top tax rate for the rich.
Even the Federal Reserve’s low interest rates are aimed at helping the
banksters.
The low interest rates deprive retirees and those living on their savings of
interest income. The low interest rates have also deprived corporate
pensions of funding. To fill the gap corporations are issuing billions of
dollars in corporate bonds in order to fund their pensions. Corporate debt
is increasing, but not plant and equipment that would produce earnings to
service the debt. As the economy worsens, servicing the additional debt will
be a problem.
In addition, America’s elderly are finding that fewer and fewer doctors will
accept them as patients as a 23% cut looms in the already low Medicare
payments to doctors.
The American government only has resources for wars of aggression, police
state intrusions, and bailouts of rich banksters. The American citizen has
become a mere subject to be bled for the ruling oligarchies.
The police state attitude of the TSA toward airline travelers is a clear
indication that Americans are no longer citizens with rights but subjects
without rights. Perhaps the day will come when oppressed Americans will take
to the streets like the French, the Greeks, the Irish, and the British.

The Great Explosion
It should be common knowledge that Darwinism has never explained human evolution, allowing people to evade the gross fallacies Darwin’s theory creates for understanding man. The problem is that people are afraid of themselves and have found a new form of thumbsucking: deny the deeper realities of man, and use reductionist Darwinism to make the excuse that it is scientific.

The New Atheists are responsible in part for this new brand of sloppy thinking on ‘religion’. Contact with the spiritual world is not the same as religion, but a factor of human evolution becoming homo sapiens. Only a group as divorced from reality as the cult of modern scientism could exhibit the escalating confusions recorded here.
Some thoughts on the origin of religion By MISSBUTTON

(Hello. This is the first time I’ve posted on here.)
Ironically, whoever it was who thought up the idea of a spiritual world to explain our place in this one, this person or people were the original scientists, the ones with curiosity and a sense of wonder. Unfortunately, that idea turned viral and became a destructive force in humans, creating havoc and holding us back. Religion wasn’t born out of a ‘deep spiritual need’, it was born out of scientific curiosity. Now we have real science to help explain our place in the universe, but we are left with the superstitious debris of that early desire to know ourselves. There are still people who remain satisfied with the earliest ‘explanations’ that our ancient ancestors came up with: those people who suppress the natural scientific curiosity that we all have; those who are easily manipulated by unscrupulous and self-seeking religious leaders who want to hang on to their power base and keep their flock ignorant and superstitious.
Religion has long since passed its use-by date. Humankind needs to get over it.
Does anyone else have any theories on the origin of religious superstition?

Religion is Immoral By STEVE ZARA
Added: Sunday, 28 November 2010 at 9:40 AM
http://richarddawkins.net/discussions/554766-religion-is-immoral
There is an American politician called John Shimkus. He hopes to become chair of the House Energy Committee. That’s a powerful position. One might expect someone who aims to fill such an important position to ensure that they have a solid understanding of the issues. That they have consulted experts on the complex subject of, for example, global warming and climate change.
Speaking before a House Energy Subcommittee on Energy and Environment hearing in March, 2009, Shimkus quoted Genesis: ‘As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.’ Shimkus insists that we should not be concerned about climate change because of God’s promise to Noah that the Earth would remain fertile.
Meanwhile, the debate over the correct approaches to religion by rationalists continues, with supporters of accommodation and their opponents being occasionally as vociferous as ever. The debate almost always deals with matters of science and whether religions’ claim to ‘other ways of knowing’
I believe that situations like that I described above mean that a new debate is needed, about the nature of religion and its place in our societies, about what we are and are not prepared to accommodate. This debate is not about science, or philosophy, but about ethics, about what is acceptable in the public sphere in a supposedly civilised society. At the centre of this debate should be a new position regarding the status of religion. This position should be that religion itself is immoral. That seems to be a very strong statement, but it is justified. Our daily lives depend on the acceptance of reason as the foundation of the way our societies operate. If we are the victims of a crime, we expect an investigation based on evidence, not the casting of runes. If we are in a plane thousands of feel in the air, we expect the pilot to judge a safe course based on an analysis of weather information, not entreaties to Thor. If we are seriously ill, we expect a thorough diagnosis using modern medical techniques, not a reading of the entrails of a freshly killed animal. Indeed, if such practices were found to have taken place, those participating would be subject to legal action.
The same standard should be applied to the use of religion. If a politician uses religion rather than reason as the basis for policy decisions, they should be subject to penalty. Irrationality must become no more acceptable in politics than it is in medicine or aeronautics. And what of the priests and imams, the vicars and bishops, the cardinals and popes? They are as much purveyors of quackery as the homeopaths and chiropracters, only with vastly more power and so more dangerous.
Rejecting accommodation with religion as a source of truth isn’t enough. Not even the rejection of the accommodation with religion as a source of morality goes far enough. We need to promote the view that religion itself is immoral, because it is immoral to encourage the rejection of reason.

Our idea for a Green Tea Party might be a useful foil for recasting the liberal/left: people on the left can’t seem to realize that, short of a cataclysm, as with the First World War, the chance for some revolutionary change doesn’t exist in reality. The examples of the revolutions of the early modern are thus misleading, and Marx understood, yet misunderstood this.
Whatever the case, the stale cliches of the left are a disservice to a moment of crisis, as an entirely new framework is needed.
More next week.

We live in a new era, when the intelligence agencies (in America) have alread coopted revolutionary change by taking it over: they successfully staged a coup d’etat with the assissination of JFK, and kept the coup invisible, behind a series of fronts, Obama not the last, no doubt.

Scottish Horticulturalist Patrick Matthew Proposed More Accurate Theory of Gradual Evolution Before Charles Darwin Did, Geologist Argues
ScienceDaily (Nov. 9, 2010) — Charles Darwin may not have put forth the earliest or most accurate theory of gradual evolution. In an essay in the journal Historical Biology, New York University geologist Michael Rampino argues that a more accurate theory of gradual evolution, positing that long periods of evolutionary stability are disrupted by catastrophic mass extinctions of life, was put forth by Scottish horticulturalist Patrick Matthew prior to Darwin’s published work on the topic.

Atheists’ Billboard Calls Nativity a ‘Myth’
Why do the New Athesits want to attack the Nativity??? To be sure, a suspcious resemblance to the myths of founders and heroes is there. But the presence of three wise men at the birth of a new religious figure is not inherently mythical: witness the Tibetan variant. That a series of spiritual sages wanted to track the birth coordinates of a particular putative prophet about to be born is entirely believable, if unproven or murky in its details. The myth arises when later men recount what they don’t understand.
MYFOXNY.COM – A group called the American Atheists has paid for a huge billboard on Route 495 outside the Lincoln Tunnel in North Bergen, N.J., that is raising some eyebrows.
The billboard shows a silhouette of the Three Wise Men approaching the Nativity, with the words: “You KNOW it’s a Myth / This Season, Celebrate REASON!”
The group says the billboard is not designed to convert Christians to atheism. Rather, Dave Silverman, a spokesman for the American Atheists, says the sign is designed to encourage existing atheists who are going through the motions of celebrating Christmas to stop.
On its website, the group also states that the billboard is meant to “attack the myth that Christianity owns the solstice season” and to “raise the awareness of the organization and the movement.”

Tony Blair, Christopher Hitchens debate religion
http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/11/26/1945066/tony-blair-christopher-hitchens.html
By CHARMAINE NORONHA
Associated Press
TORONTO — Former British prime minister Tony Blair said Friday his religious beliefs did not play a role in his decision to support the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq during a debate about the merits of religion in Toronto.
Blair attempted to persuade his verbal sparring opponent, writer Christopher Hitchens, that religion is a force for global good when he was asked by an audience member how religion influenced his decision to stand with the United States against Iraq.
“Religion doesn’t do policy. All my decisions were based on policy and so they should be, and you may disagree with those decisions but they were made because I genuinely believed them to be right,” said Blair before the audience of more than 2,600 at Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall.
Blair, 57, converted to Catholicism after leaving office in 2007. Since then he has started the Tony Blair Faith Foundation to promote understanding between religions.
He faced a fierce opponent in the debating ring Friday night. Hitchens, 61, an avowed atheist, Vanity Fair columnist and author of “God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything,” has been a prominent voice in attacking religion.
