Is scientology really a religion?
Inside the mind of Scientology’s Messiah
Twenty-five years after his death, Michael Bywater revisits the sacred texts of the pulp science writer turned prophet L Ron Hubbard
The logical definition of ‘religion’ is at fault here, and the result suggests scientology is a religion in the same sense as the products of the Axial Age, for example. But that does a disservice to analysis.
Better to distinguish different usages of the term ‘religion’ with a consideration of ‘mere cults’.

Scientology has a layout of their spiritual services. They believe we each ARE a soul, and me transmigrate lifetime to lifetime, into new bodies, each new lifetime. The layout of their services divides majorly into the “lower levels” which are spiritual improvement “talk therapy” , and into the “upper levels” which consist today majorly exorcism.
The “upper levels” of Scientology are confidential to the members, but the public can read and listen to Hubbard discuss the “upper levels” on the numerous Wikileaks Scientology scriptures. Especially important to listen to, is the “Xenu” story, which explains WHY Scientology engages in the exorcism it does. Xenu, to tell you in a nutshell, 75 million years ago he was a bad ruler of this part of the galaxy, and he mass murdered billions of humanoid aliens brought here to earth, then known as Tegeack, and Xenu had those murdered billions of alien souls then implanted with false ideas (think Arnold Schwartenegger’s movie “Total Recall”) for 36 and 1/2 days full time gunk implanted in EACH of these billions of souls of the murdered aliens. Those mentally messed up souls then have been trapped here on earth, and they hitchhike on EVERY human being today, to the tune of tens of thousands of these extra souls with their mental gunk. We ALSO, were murdered and implanted with that 36 and 1/2 day long “Total Recall” type of implant and we also have all that mental gunk in our minds, hidden and spurting out now and then to mess us up.
Scientology’s “upper level” spiritual services clean up our own gunk, and then we exorcise ALL of the souls hitchhiking on us (this is Scientology exorcism).
That’s Scientology’s actual spiritual therapy practice.
This is the guts of what Scientology does to spiritually improve a person.
Rarely is Scientology’s spiritual therapy procedures laid out as simply as this.
But this is what they do.
