Nuclear power loses its alibi
by Chip Ward
Le Monde diplomatique (March 28 2011)
When nuclear reactors blow, the first thing that melts down is the truth.
Just as in the Chernobyl catastrophe almost 25 years ago when Soviet
authorities denied the extent of radiation and downplayed the dire
situation that was spiraling out of control, Japanese authorities spent
the first week of the Fukushima crisis issuing conflicting and confusing
reports. We were told that radiation levels were up, then down, then up,
but nobody aside from those Japanese bureaucrats could verify the levels
and few trusted their accuracy. The situation is under control, they told
us, but workers are being evacuated. There is no danger of contamination,
but stay inside and seal your doors.

The uprisings in the Middle East, the unrest that is tearing apart nations
such as the Ivory Coast, the bubbling discontent in Greece, Ireland and
Britain and the labor disputes in states such as Wisconsin and Ohio presage
the collapse of globalization. They presage a world where vital resources,
including food and water, jobs and security, are becoming scarcer and harder
to obtain. They presage growing misery for hundreds of millions of people
who find themselves trapped in failed states, suffering escalating violence
and crippling poverty. They presage increasingly draconian controls and
force-take a look at what is being done to Pfc. Bradley Manning-used to
protect the corporate elite who are orchestrating our demise.

From Cotton Candy to Rock: New Evidence About Beginnings of the Solar System
ScienceDaily (Mar. 28, 2011) — The earliest rocks in our Solar System were more like cotton candy than the hard rock that we know today, according to research published March 27 in the journal Nature Geoscience.

Neuroscience and art?

This Is Your Brain on Art
Can neuroscience explain art?

The problem here is that, as with Darwinism, fake solutions will be created as science myths. That neuroscience could clarify issues of art seems a non-brainer, but reductionist scientism is sure to find a way to not find the answer using a series of gimmicks.

Dawkins’ treatment in the media is unfair: he get’s an immense press for views that are flawed, second-rate, and appealing to science adolescents.
Can no dissenting views ever gain any traction from th e plague of poisoned memes promoted by this mediocrity?

This endless stupidity of reductionist Darwinism is going to destroy a whole civilization, such is the blight it casts on all forms of thought.

Interview with Scientist Richard Dawkins
‘Religion? Reality Has a Grander Magic of its Own’

AFP
A sculpture by the British artist Damien Hirst. Is evolution a fact?
Evolution is fact. That, at least, is what evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins argues, making his case in his new book “The Greatest Show on Earth,” which has just been published in German. SPIEGEL ONLINE spoke with Dawkins about the shortcomings of religion, the grandeur of reality and the God Gene.

Religion, sex, celibacy

Posted in General at 11:54 am by nemo

The issue of sex and many religions is important, and the question here needs an answer, but won’t get one.
The problem was carefully addressed by Rajneesh, but noone will listen.
In general, the place of celibacy in many religions is related to the ‘growth of the soul’ and much else. The decline and fall of that original technique visible in the ignorance of celibate Xtians about their own history here is decadence in the extreme.

The oldest religions of India spoke of ‘tantra’ and approached sex in a very direct way.

Why are most religions anti sexual?

Why do the most religions see sexuality as something bad?

Is it even true that this applies to most religions? Or is it only a fault of the most popular Judeo-Christian religions?

Speaking in Anaheim, California at the 241st National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, they described an advanced solar cell the size of a poker card that mimics the process, called photosynthesis, that green plants use to convert sunlight and water into energy.

Mind the Gap
By CHRIS BUSBY

http://www.counterpunch.org/busby03282011.html

Since the Fukushima accident we have seen a stream of experts on radiation telling us not to worry, that the doses are too low, that the accident is nothing like Chernobyl and so forth. They appear on television and we read their articles in the newspapers and online. Fortunately the majority of the public don’t believe them. I myself have appeared on television and radio with these people; one example was Ian Fells of the University of Newcastle who, after telling us all on BBC News that the accident was nothing like Chernobyl (wrong), and the radiation levels of no consequence (wrong), that the main problem was that there was no electricity and that the lifts didn’t work. “ If you have been in a situation when the lifts don’t work, as I have” he burbled on, “you will know what I mean.” You can see this interview on youtube and decide for yourself.
