Hegel, modernity, freedom

Posted in General at 11:57 am by nemo

Last and First Men

Hegel is remarkable for the way his thinking, unfortunately with much confusion, does for modernity what the Israelites did for Axial Age Israel.
He sees that it is a phenomenon beyond simplistic historical explanations.
Any student of the eonic effect must hold his breath as the argument threatens to both illuminate, and then confuse, the dynamics of the mysterious eonic sequence.

Fukuyama cleverly cited the argument in distorted form, bringing in the issue of capitalism where it doesn’t belong.

If we examine the eonic effect we see that there is, just as Hegel sensed, a mystery to the emergence of freedom in history, even more specifically in the strange career of democracy.
Hegel seems to have misunderstood his own argument (not surprising), while Fukuyama turned it into neo-con propaganda.

Beyond duality of theism/atheism

Comment on Hegel and theism/atheism

I think that Hegel has transcended normal religious theism, and moved to a new perspective. My point with the citation of the dialectic (which can cause confusion) is merely to show the way that Hegel must surely have been thinking toward a view beyond the duality of theism/atheism.

It’s bird, it’s a plane, ….superevolution!

The previous remarks on Hegel should remind us that in the eonic effect we see a mysterious process (historical evolution) that is beyond theism and atheism. An unknown beyond space and time operating over tens of millennia on a global scale: it’s bird, it’s a plane, ….superevolution!

Hegel the theist?

Posted in General at 12:01 pm by nemo

Comment on Hegel
nemo: People have debated this for a long time, and Robert Solomon (In the Spirit) and various others have claimed to expose Hegel as an atheist. It is hard to get past the completely obvious evidence he was a theist. But the point of my remarks was perhaps to see that theism and atheism enter the ‘dialectic’ and the reconciliation of the contradiction is the real view of Hegel: i.e. ‘spirit’ as the neutralization of the triad. That would make someone look at once like a theist and an atheit.

The New Atheism cult undergoes sectarian conflict

Posted in General at 11:56 am by nemo

Atheists against the New Atheism

Protesting the division among atheists is pointless: a brittle cult like the New Atheism automatically generates division among related types. It is always the case.

And it is useless also, whatever the case with Michael Ruse’s views, to cite separation of church and state, if the teaching of Darwinism is used to promote atheism in education.

Finally the challenge to all religion under the rubric of challenging monotheism should generate thorough hostility, step one. It is an indirect form of intolerance of an immense number of distinct things, including atheist religions.

The NLRB Throws Down a Gaunlet

A Victory for Labor
By DAVID MACARAY

http://www.counterpunch.org/macaray04282011.html

With all the bad news organized labor has received recently—and there’s been plenty of it, from attacks on the collective bargaining rights of public sector workers, to smear campaigns against school teachers, to more jobs being lost to globalization and “Dixiefication”—it came as an bracing surprise to see the NLRB reach all the way back to the landmark 1935 National Labor Relations Act (Wagner Act) to defy the Boeing Corporation.

On April 20, in a positively stunning decision, the NLRB’s acting general counsel, Lafe Solomon, announced that Boeing’s plan to move part of its Dreamliner 787 passenger plane production from Seattle to South Carolina was illegal.
