The secular, and the epochs of world history

The eonic effect

The term ‘secular’ has very little meaning, as such: we see it as the new age of modernity. But the term itself simply means ‘age period’, and there are three visible epochs of that type in world history (with, no doubt, earlier ones in the Neolithic or before). The Axial Age was thus ‘secular’ in the same sense as it produced a new set of religions!
