Libertarianism googled. Counterattack at dawn
Today’s post from Alternet on the libertarians in the OWS raises the stakes on some background info here: so I ‘googled’ (?verb) Amazon with libertarianism…I realized that this term, ignored by me, had outflanked me. But not for long.
I am a great one for reading up on booklists, but I already have a bad feelling about this literature/booklist: this looks to be shoddy stuff, fast food with purchased intellectual power from thinktanks on the right, with the bad rat odor of dead neocons filling the nose cone.
My point: many on the libertarian right are obviously confused liberals, responding to the clarion call of ‘freedom’, but one here cleverly transposed as if in the aura of Edmund Burke into something deceitfully rigged in reverse gear. People are easily fooled, and I think a bit of by the sleeve counsel should acquaint most Tea Party idealists with the way in which they have been manipulated, and worse, by another form of the the ‘state’ (they hate so much): the State of capitalism and its big money.
In a word, a little public information can go a long way, and showing people the fact/sheet on libertarianism, with a little deprogramming of the cult-like mesmirizing con could…..your move. The history of libertarian thinking by an outside sholar might be helpful here.
In a word, the revolutionary left with its edge on the terms of ‘freedom’ in the liberal/left world drove some clever conservatives to conspire semantically to landmine its semantics, with some succcess.
