Gould’s cowardice and bungled challenge to Darwinism

August 31st, 2012 · No Comments

I have less respect for Gould than I once did, because he had an opportunity to clarify the confusion of Darwinism, but copped out, and instead prevaricated. The Synthesis could have been limited and brought to a close in the period of Gould’s work. Gould came to the point of doing something on these lines, but baulked. His agenda, then, got in the way. His quarrel with Dawkins should have been based on a clear critique of natural selection, but instead he made the situation worse by corrupting the PE idea with Darwinism.

He as a man with great potential frittered away in compromise.
