Are scientists incurably stupid, violent, and value-free warmongers?
Math Explains History: Simulation Accurately Captures the Evolution of Ancient Complex Societies

Sep. 23, 2013 — The question of how human societies evolve from small groups to the huge, anonymous and complex societies of today has been answered mathematically, accurately matching the historical record on the emergence of complex states in the ancient world. Intense warfare is the evolutionary driver of large complex societies, according to new research from a trans-disciplinary team at the University of Connecticut, the University of Exeter in England, and the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS).

This is an almost perfect example of the illusion of explanation in the perspective of scientism and mock-Darwinian categories of ‘evolution’. I have not seen the model and would certainly enjoy looking at its details. But I can predict on the basis of the alternate model of the eonic effect that the key issues have been missed if what we are talking about is the issue of emergent and ‘evolving’ civilization. The scientific mentality is reductionist, value-free, seeks the dynamic in warfare, and disallows in its use of deterministic factors any aspect of consciousness, or agents in action. It is no doubt possible to study up to a point the mechanics of various parts of civilization, the cameo example of traffic being an example: we can expand this type of example to encompass far larger aspects of civilization, as per this model. But this won’t be ‘evolution’ in any real sense. Face it, we can’t study civilization on the basis of war being the driver. This says nothing about real culture, art, religion, indeed, science, and the complex developments of innovative periods of history such as we seen in the Axial Age.
As such I have no quarrel with an instance of this kind of model. It is the obsessive domination of the mindset behind it that allows no other viewpoint that is dangerous.
Study the eonic effect: we see a quite different macro effect that operates at the level of the value domain, and is connected as ‘evolution’ to all these issues in a supercomplex dynamism of progressive epochs. The Axial Age should make it obvious that something like this is at work. And yet the whole question of the Axial Age is repressed from scientific discourse.
Note the similarity to Darwinism as a conflict theory at its core. We have a strange science mentality at work determined to remain at the base level of explanation. Reading this I despair of science: it is suddenly exposed for what it is, and what is hiding behind the Darwinism hype.

In terms of the eonic effect, which most scientists simply cannot bring themselves to study, the evidence is overwhelming that the ‘evolution’ of civilization is driven at a kind of macro level by an elusive generator of transitions. Study the evidence, and look askance at these vulgar reductionist attempts to mechanize culture. For the millionth time since the Romantic Reaction to science, let us note that physics can’t fully explain nature, and/or culture. It can’t.
Chapter 3 of WHEE has several sections relevant here, consider this on ‘conflict theories’:
Read the whole chapter and you will see that the effort to make warfare the driver of civilization (in this mock Darwinian model) is misguided.
I don’t wish to make a mountain out of a molehill: this kind of study is simply schlock science running on automatic. But what it indicates is more important and relevant also to our discussion of the limits of historical materialism.
More anon on this.
WHEE give a complete falsification of this kind of science junk, but even free on the Internet, these science idiots won’t even look at the evidence, and are unable to escape their closed mentality. This people will not even exchange a hello email with the ‘outsider’. They are totally enclosed in a fake world. To be fair WHEE is almost incomprehensible, at first, to most raised in the science mentality. But its basic methodology is clear enough and very robust.
Since scientists won’t read it, maybe you can fill the slack, and do it for them. The basic study is very simple: world history shows a non-random factor driving the whole. How this works requires detailed study.
Terribly sorry, you are living in a doomed society. War is the driver of civilization. Better declare war soon, it might evolve you further.
Marxists might study this example: it suggests why historical materialism can’t really come to grips with social evolution. the variant Social Darwinism is part of the same nexus.

Moral: newtonian mechanics is dangerous in the hands of those who wish to apply it to the whole of reality. Once the idee fixe is set the jig is up…
