Historical materialism vs universal history

October 18th, 2013 · No Comments

This is a kind of plug of ‘marxism’ at the end of WHEE, but that is misleading: it is a plug for the radical communism of the 1848 era, not necessarily the views of Marx/Engels on all subjects of theory (their non-theory praxis is actually all that is needed).
The macro model shows revolutionary modernism, democracy and finally socialism/communism as democratic completions to be part of a pattern of universal history, yet the tenets of Marx resulted in the most sterile view of history, that of historical materialism. The passage doesn’t quite spell out that contradiction, but in any case we can see the significnce of the yer 1848.
