Two selections from LFM: a final link before moving on: the book should be ready in January…
Current marxist groups are stalled so badly they are in the way of a radical socialist movement. The OWS broke the deadlock, but that movement is unreasonably crippled by its own assumptions.
The purpose of Last and First Men is to try and look at the legacy of communism separate from its connection to marxism. We can take marxism or leave it. Historical materialism, and the labor theory of value, along with crisis theory, are endlessly debated but the public isn’t listening any more. It is very easy to correct this situation: we can create a larger core of ideas that includes the legacy marxism, but which is independent of the ideologies connected to it. And that can not only put the idea of communism into a more specific form, it just might awaken the old marxist cadre which is now nearly defunct.
