Over at the Gurdjieff Con we have been wondering whether American culture will finish off Buddhism after finishing off Yoga. This article in Time has answer.
This article on mindfulness has a stunning list, the twenty-two reasons to do ‘mindfulness’. Not a single reference to the path of Enlightenment.
It is almost beyond belief, and sad. The new atheists will rejoice in this result. Meditation completely demolished is no longer a threat, that nasty concept of ‘enlightenment’ being a superstition.

    Actually, “mindfulness meditation” was never taught by the early Buddhists. It was basically a meditation technique invented by Mahasi Sayadaw and the Burmese in the last century. It is an interesting history, but the Burmese tradition was always flawed in its understandings; too much adherence to dubious commentariesl from later in the Common Era that butcher the sutras:
