The new Cosmos series and the issue of darwinism

March 8th, 2014 · 2 Comments

The days of science fascination are passing and a repeat of the Cosmos series is likely to seem passe. I could be wrong, but what caught my notice here is the suggestion this program will do more than regurgitate the standard darwinian facade of evolutionary theory. Like it or not we have moved on from naive darwinism, and if the forces of science education are behind on this issue the result will be another tiresome science sawdust program.

Critiquing Intelligent Design is one thing, but failing to critique darwinism is almost worse.

I think your concerns are justifified. Tyson is himself an evangelist for scientism, so his show is virtually certain to contain all the overconfident assertions and biases of Sagan’s original.

Good points. I don’t even recall the Sagan series’ content. Will discuss today..
