I still haven’t seen episode 2 yet of the new Cosmos series, but I can see that they are already in trouble on evolution. The creators of this series must know that the evolution of the eye is a problem for Darwinism. And the attempt to disguise this with ‘stages of adapatation’ arguments is song and dance sophistry. But they must know from experience that this con works fairly well: it makes a basic difficulty look solved.
The resoslution of the problem is fairly simple: complex organs show developmental complexity, i.e. a sequence of directed stages in a programmed set of operations with a ‘teleological’ driver of some kind. There is every possibility this could fall under the label evolution, but it is not Darwinism. Where this complex developmental processes came from is not known.
I blame figures like Sagan: he was a much better liar than the confused Degrasse Tyson.
