This Harris caper is a rip-off, but he may well get away with it: it is after all one more ‘New Age’ profitable venture. The problem here is that waking up is not so easy and the rapid discovery of still more failure will make for relatively swift disillusion. And the distinction between spirituality and religion doesn’t work: religions don’t wake people up, and as another religion Harris’ new brand will damp out in mechanicalness.
Why is it that we need to repackage ‘meditation’ as brand of scientism? I think this whole gesture will prove self-defeating.
The attempt to filter ‘the path to enlightenment’ out of the picture because the idiots of scientism believe it has supernatural implications is so stupid as to be silly, and will condemn Harris’ stupid movement from the start. Filtering out enlightenment is the same tactic that so limited Xtianity over the centuries.
