In any case I wrote this review to protest the way Zizek, having noted my book Last and First Men, is trying to reestablish the dogmas by burying the work of a non-celebrity with more bullshit to protect his monopoly. But I was unfair here: his core material is perhaps a better guide to revolution than that of celebrities.

That strategy is fading. Last and First Men simply cuts through the theory and philosophy and tries to do something simpler and more practical. Consider Brand’s new book Revolution:

I have been unfair to Zizek, to make a point. But it is less than consistent to discuss ‘revolution’ and then let two celebrities walk away with the term in a way that will likely be a cooptation of the concept.

My more basic point was, not to challenge the better founded idea of ‘revolution’ on the left, if not the ‘not well-founded’ bolshevik version, but to point out the way that ‘marxist’ communists have lost their audience to such celebrities. Their views may be sincere, up to a point far short of what is needed, but the manner of stopping short of the full set of concepts here will end up making the idea still more confused…
