Zizek’s work is beside the point: can a ‘postmarxist’ left recast the question of postcapitalist transition?

I think that concern over Zizek is perhaps misplaced on my part. I suspect the vast majority of marxists disregard his corpus completely, so the issue isn’t really dialectical materialism, but the creation of a marxist update that can streamline the ‘canon’ without theories as a set of verifiable statements about history (as chronicle), economic systems, class and ideology, and the defining foundation for both a communist social construct and a communist economic system. The attempt to defer these defining statement is something the left can no longer allow itself: the world will never again issue a promissory note for a future ‘communism’ that allows no feedback during realization with a set of definitions.
