The issue of tragedy raises the question of new revolutionary platforms that are more comprehensive than the purely economic: a ‘science’ of civilizations would be accompanied by a set of ‘revolutionary’ protocols of ‘transition’ to recast social forms that are blighted by not just economic but any or all other forms of social failure. The ability to generate art cultures in the broad sequence of history is one of the ‘impossible’ questions that can animate a larger perspective than the purely economic. A communist revolution must stage a broader conception of culture and might well be the staging ground for a tragic theatre, a real one.
