We have commented many times on the confusion over the term ‘secular’. The confusion is fed by many who have an anti-religious agenda and wish to make it look as though religion is ‘premodern’. But that won’t work. Religion has a very robust place in modernity and it is puzzling that anyone would try to equate atheism with the ‘secular’ as the new atheist propaganda would have it.
The question of evolution, again, has been caught up in this confusion. The rejection of ‘evolution’ is often merely the rejection of darwinism, and the confusion of these two modes perpetuates the confusion. We should be sure that those ‘who reject evolution’ haven’t been misrepresented by hard darwinists.
