Revolution starts with protestantism and is then hijacked by the right

March 7th, 2015 · No Comments

These posts on the Reformation aren’t an attempt to force god or religion on the left, but a reminder that modern revolution began in the context of the Reformation. The sudden reversal in the nineteenth century has its own logic, but the ‘macro model’ uncovers (simple study can do likewise) shows how religious forces are perfectly capable of supporting revolutionary movements. But the sad fact is that ‘religion’ was hijacked for the right and after the english civil war this point is lost, even as revolutionary activity in the later period of the French Revolution must confront catholicism and the sudden rejection of religion follows in the nineteenth. But abolitionism shows another Xtian movement, in the same period.
