[Marxism] Fwd: Comments on the Alex Callinicos – Stahis Kouvelakis Debate
Socialist revolution may be desirable, but in our post-Soviet era, it can
be nothing more than a pipedream. Rolling back neoliberal austerity
and restoring parts of the postwar welfare state is a far more realistic
objective. With militant mass pressure and strong international solidarity,
it might just be possible. To denounce such efforts as reformist is to
foreclose on real opportunities to affect the lives of millions in a
positive way in favor of a utopian fantasy.
Whatever the case here it is essential to consider the option of socialist revolution and prepare. The left hasn’t achieved anything in the past generation to stop neoliberalism, and at each point if gets worse. Now they want to make the Bible compatible with Ayn Rand. In any case these alternatives are not mutually exclusive.
