These debates over marxist theory go on and on, always dividing the left, and never resolved. If Harvey can’t get it straight, a new approach is needed.
We should simply drop the subject of Marx’s theories and move toward a generalized descriptive economics that exposes the relations of class and ideology. The attempt to prove Marx got the theory of capitalist critique right is irrelevant at this point.
We need a new perspective that isn’t a power struggle between leftist marx factions, with a ‘no fail’ approach that doesn’t try to solve the case of sociological or historical theory.
