It is more than possible that a resurgence of liberal gestures will resolve some of the critical dilemmas of our time, we see that already, to some extent. But the situation doesn’t allow that earlier success. It presumed a future of growth, organized labor, no climate crisis, and much else. If we can’t assume all that at least in principle, we are better off trying to consider something really radical, at the juncture of ‘postcapitalism’.
