The problem with atheism…and theism

I criticize the new atheists not because I am a theist but because the debate is unable to define serious positions on either subject. Apparently Chopra is a theist, but strapped in a witness box and crossexamined by a gaggle of new agers he could be easily exposed as an atheist, by most definitions. The tricker ones used by predestigators in India are conceivably theist in some ways, but verdict muddles into ‘incoherent’. But the criticism is better lodged at aggressive skeptics like the new atheists: it is a reversal of doomed metaphysics to propose the certainty of atheism against the former certainties of theism. In Kantian terms it is a debate doomed to be dominated by fanatics, and the category of the latter now claims such cases as Dawkins, whose version of the doctrine of resurrection for the faith of new atheism is natural selection: the levitation by fraudulent statistics of impossible evolutions into the possible.
