It is necessary to study the decline of the Roman Empire: Degrowth will come on its own sooner or later, and at that point it will be beyond your control.
The idea of a ‘new’ communism is essentially this idea of the ability to control, if necessary perform ‘degrowth’, in a situation deteriorating beyond control, hopefully not beyond repair…eventually. Look at Rome’s breakdown point in the sixth century (earlier, in fact). It wasn’t until over a millennium later that civilization started to move out of its mega slump.
