The debate between science and religion is really about monotheism and religion. Although the new atheists have succumbed to taking on religions like buddhism the real problem is with Xtianity and its confused theology. Xtianity was always destined to get into trouble here, and I can sympathize with Coyne’s frustration with accomodationism promoted by Xtian hypocrites who are satisfied with any bilge that can get Xtianity through one more argument. At the same time the stance of science/scientism is often equally frustrating. Sciences preach against myth, but are unable to surpass the myths of darwinism. There is something about large-scale group opinion that produces an Abort on social ideologies, religious or scientific.
