Last and First Men and a revolutionary scenario

June 4th, 2015 · No Comments

Our discussions of marxism are ambivalent: the ism has fallen out of date and yet remains the foundation for a real left. This ‘impossible’ conundrum is actually a vital call for a creative recasting of the whole subject: Last and First Men tries to collate everything needed for a living ideological foundation.
take historical model of WHEE in streamlined form as an outline of history
this model provides a better foundation for the idea of revolution
it puts the emergence of socialism and communism in a larger context
the left becomes connected to both the Reformation, the rise of science, the Enlightenment and the Romantic movement (to say nothing of the industrial, french/american revolutions/capitalist revolutions)
it can acknowledge its connection with materialism and idealism both via the rise of science and German classical philosophy

This broader framework can provide a critique of scientism, via the critiques of Kant, a critique of darwinism via the Kantian biological foundation…
the left can found itself as the successor to the Reformation with a more reasonable critique of religion than the sterile brands of atheist humanism. The dilemma of atheism/theism can be replaced with a sensible debriefing of religious illusions and their secular counterparts…
We could go on and on, but the point is made, that marxism is the archaeological site for a future left ideology of communism revolution…time is short we can’t stand in place while the capitalist endgame destroys itself and the future in a mad fundamentalism of economics…
