Religion in a naturalistic context…the Axial Age

One of the ironies of the kind of research into history that we see in WHEE is the way the ‘spiritual’ fades away as the phenomenon of religion in a new naturalistic interpretation makes religion look comprehensible…at last.

The clearest case is the question of the Axial Age: religion emerges in parallel with many other things, making the distinction material and spiritual irrelevant.
