Linguistic decline

Poetry is dying out in modern culture, and noone really cares. I think it is worth reading Shakespeare, apart from a thousand other reasons, just to find out the way our grammar and vocabulary have degenerated from the early modern. Not all early moderns sounded like the Bard, to be sure. Look at the vocabulary alone of his plays. Remarkable. We tend to enter a vocab desert using only a restricted set of words. And the art of blank verse more or less vanished.
