I am sorry to be so impolite, but I must consider that the current left, pace Zizek, would be stalinist in practice and I am dead there. So I counterattack from the start….
The issues of buddhism are completely bungled by critics like Zizek. This stuff is already from a past generation of philosophy. The era of buddhism reaching the west has posed the issues directly: in terms of consciusness, self-consciousness, enlightenment, and the realities, purported, of reincarnation, and much else.
We can’t deal with this using pastiche philosophy that can’t allow itself to even discuss Kant, Schopenhauer (and Hegel, but Zizek has at least tried to rescue Hegel).
Schopenhauer with transcendental idealism created a model that can, in principle, discuss something like buddhism.
The left has to remorph completely at his point to confront a generation that has moved on from the older secular humanism…
