We have addressed the issue of postdarwinism here many times, and one issue that haunts those who wish a new paradigm is that of ‘form factors’, an elusive category that must be there to mediate the interaction of directional or teleological evolution with a lower level that adapts form factor to an environment. Biologists have lived with the luxury of darwinian oversimplification so long they don’t know what’s going to hit them on the rocky road to a new paradigm…
