It is striking, in the context of the defeat of socialists in Venezuela, how little discussion, help or analysis was offered by the left to the struggling ‘revolution’. The left is mostly jargon discussion based on a few archaic texts. The tremendous opportunity of the Chavez revolution should have sparked all sorts of analyses, suggestions, and scenarios for the context in which that opportunity arose.
The marxist left is waiting for the Big Revolution, but even there they have no blueprint or plan. It should have been possible for the socialists to have produced a real and viable socialist economy, with some degree of nationalization and public economic planning. But the whole game resolved to buying time with oil revenues. The international left should be held partly responsible for the desert of real social technology.
