The plight of the Islamic world confronted with US crimes and covert ops is not sympathy from critics of Islamophobia. Rather, the trend toward dissolution of Axial era religions needs to be faced. As outsider one step is all that is needed: the right to speech in critique of the legacy. The rest will soon follow. In any case it is not Islamophobia but a warning of the general trend of secularism. Islam is a mystery, and deserves more than its new atheist or conservative critics, but it can’t evade the tide of modernity. There are all sorts of people in that world that can help here. Islam has a very considered hidden legacy, but it seems noone can make use of it. Modernization (whatever that is) might ironically vitalize that legacy for a new future.
