Our analysis was a bit too pessimistic perhaps, but the point is clear that a new framework is needed for ‘marxism’. The ‘ism’ needs to become more than something named after a founder, and should expand beyond its historical legacy to include a larger superset of modernity as a whole:

the radical left is sitting through an immense opportunity as the American election to establish a presence as a player with a ready program…

this larger paradigm can both affirm and critique the historical legacy
be able to discuss the major critiques of marxism of the last century
create a new format and core that is not vulnerable to such attacks
move beyond marx’s theories to discussions of neo-classical economics
attempt to remain faithful to the core ideas: with electoral/revolutionary aspects
transcend ‘historical materialism’ with a larger view of the history of civilization
critique its own scientism
adopt a balance of early modern factors: religion, reformation, science, enlightenment/romantic movement, etc…
transcend ‘materialism’ with an indifferent dialectic of idealism/materialism

make use of a Kantian framework of individuality, autonomy…: a new and original psychology of man
learn to critique darwinism and get out of the reductionist mindset, social darwinism, with a better view of world history…

Etc…

A clear critique of marginalist economics, some treatment of the calculation problem
a clear blueprint of a neo-communist/socialist system, with internationalization…
a populist platform/social darwinist elements subject to severe critiques

a clear indictment of the role of conspiracy in the history of the US government including the 9/11 criminality…
