Rey and the scavenger icon

I finally got around to seeing the new Star Wars film and had an odd reaction: the opening scenes of the ‘Ray’ character were stunning, and, more, a mysterious windfall I never expected: a female male-action hero, a different kind of ‘beautiful’ male/female androgynous character scenario. The character sounds like voice over from Keira Knightley and was somehow oddly perfect. And that resonates with me personally: after a life of semi-porn female images this androgynous wonder was the new non-sexual pinup for, well, a scavenger like me. I have not actually scavenged spare parts from derelict space ships, but out in the western industrial waste land I have come close, with dumpster diving, aluminum/bronze recycling, machine/battery/refrigerator dismantling/resales, etc, makes the opening to the movie a personal tale of some kind. And the middle man with ‘portion’ payouts rang very true.
