The ‘western legacy’ and the confusions of scientism…We are out of time to debate theism/atheism: who cares?

We have already discussed this article today. But here is another quote/issue:

The emancipatory core of the Western legacy – materialism, secular thought, women’s rights, Cartesian subjectivity, abstract universal subjectivity – these are more precious than ever today

Zizek typifies many on the left who assume they represent modernity, with a very narrow subset of the full set of questions.
We can’t impose materialism on anyone any more. Which is not a compromise with religion or tradition but a clear effort to look at the early modern and the immense spectrum of opposites it represents. Materialism, idealism, religion, science, liberalism, communism, the enlightenment, the romantic movement…the list is HUGE. But instead we get the narrow dogmatism of the Iron Cage cults, among them the marxist. These have driven away the whole audience for the left. We are out of time to debate theism/atheism: who cares?
