Zizek typifies many on the left who assume they represent modernity, with a very narrow subset of the full set of questions.
We can’t impose materialism on anyone any more. Which is not a compromise with religion or tradition but a clear effort to look at the early modern and the immense spectrum of opposites it represents. Materialism, idealism, religion, science, liberalism, communism, the enlightenment, the romantic movement…the list is HUGE. But instead we get the narrow dogmatism of the Iron Cage cults, among them the marxist. These have driven away the whole audience for the left. We are out of time to debate theism/atheism: who cares?
