We have recommended Venezuela simply pursue the full revolution of socialism. That would create problems, but solve many others. They could signal there is no going back. They could from there bootstrap out of their current chaos. Maybe a lot of the reactionaries would decamp, perhaps to Miami.
If Cuba could do it, so can Venezuela. But I understand the leadership’s difficulties: no game plan really exists on the left.
Giving up the socialist revolution would be ugly, so ugly the country would never recover save as another South American fascism.
I am almost more surprised the international left has no strategies or suggestions, no plans, no encouragement, and no solidarity. That’s a heavy indictment. The left should have long ago developed solutions to the kind of crisis we see.
